NAPSA Stars Football Club midfielder Augustine Mulenga is optimistic that the team will still finish in a respectable position after the first round of the season.
Mulenga says the team has been playing so well despite not recording positive results in their recent matches.
The Pensioners recorded their third loss in a role yesterday in their week-13 match of the MTN super League played against Chambishi FC at Heroes Stadium.
The 2022 ABSA Cup Champions are sitting on 12th position with 16 points from the 13 games played, a situation which has brought some concern to both the team and fans.
But speaking in an interview with NAPSA Stars FC Media, the former Ama Zulu player said it’s up to the players to change things by pushing harder in the games.
“We have been doing well, we are just not converting our chances and our opponents are always capitalizing on our mistakes. If we can work on our mistakes then things will be ok,” Mulenga adds.
The player who has two goals and two assists to his name so far, said there has been some lack of patience and composure when handling the ball because the team wants to get quick goals in the matches.
Mulenga scored NAPSA Stars’ goal in yesterday’s 2-1 loss to Chambishi.
The player adds that the team is confident of getting 10 or nine points from the possible 12 points remaining before the first round is concluded.
“We can still qualify for ABSA Cup, we just need to push as players and stick to our plan in the remaining matches,” Mulenga says.
The Pensioners will visit Nchanga next, and then host Nkana before visiting Forest for their week 16 match. The last match will be a home game against in-form Prison Leopards.
Mulenga has also added that he has been settling well and jelling with the team since joining the Perry Mutapa-coached side.
The player, who was also on the books of Orlando Pirates, has appealed to the fans to continue supporting the team in these trying moments, adding that this is the time when the team needs them more.
“This phase, though unfortunate, happens in football. But we need the support from our fans, things will be more difficult for us without their support, we are pushing and we know things will soon be better,” Mulenga adds.
The midfielder has also talked about NAPSA’s next fixture against Nchanga saying it will be another tough fixture for the team.
However, Mulenga has also not ruled out a possible victory for NAPSA Stars saying the team will be pushing for maximum points in this match.
Nchanga who are a step and a point better than NAPSA Stars, will host the Pensioners this Saturday at Nchanga Stadium for a week-14 match of the MTN Super League.
