Napsa Stars secured a crucial 2-0 win against Lumwana Radiants in a match that would determine the fate of both teams in the Zambian Premier League. With relegation looming, Napsa Stars knew they needed at least a point to ensure their survival, and they delivered.
The match got off to a flying start, with Mathew Tolopa scoring in the 3rd minute to put Napsa Stars in the lead.
However, Lumwana Radiants pushed hard for an equalizer, dominating the first half with six shots on target compared to Napsa’s three. Despite their efforts, the visitors went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The second half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert.
The game took a dramatic turn in the 82nd minute when Coach Lawrence M Lubinda made a double substitution, bringing on Christopher Bwalya and Evans Kayombo Jr. Bwalya’s powerful free kick found Kayombo Jr, who kicked the ball into the net, doubling Napsa’s lead and sealing the win.
The final whistle blew in the 90th minute, with Napsa Stars celebrating their 2-0 victory. The loss relegated Lumwana Radiants to the National League, leaving their fans in pain.
Coach Lubinda expressed his joy over the win, saying, “We are very happy, the boys showed courage and passion, they worked hard, and we got the 3 points and cemented our position in the Super league.”
The win propels Napsa Stars to 9th position on the Zambian Premier League table with 43 points. Their final match of the season will be against Mutondo Stars on May 17th at Woodlands Stadium.
