Match Report: Warriors 1-1 NAPSA
Danial Adoko 76’ (OG)||Musonda Kapembwa 64’
In a tightly contested encounter, the Pensioners faced off in their first away game, ultimately securing a draw.
The Perry Mutapa-coached side burst onto the pitch with tremendous energy, earning themselves three consecutive corners. However, the home team’s defense showcased resilience, successfully defending against each of these early set-piece threats.
The 15th minute provided a heart-stopping moment for the visitors when a miscommunication between Luka Banda and goalkeeper Rodwell Mukwanya nearly gifted the hosts an unexpected opportunity. Fortunately, the quick reactions of the NAPSA defense cleared the danger swiftly. In an intriguing twist, Warriors were subsequently granted a corner, but they couldn’t capitalize on this chance to break the deadlock.
As the clock ticked on, the scoreline remained deadlocked at 0-0, with both teams vying for control of the match.
NAPSA’s Chaniza Zulu attempted to shift the balance with a shot in the 27th minute, but his effort lacked the required power, sailing straight into Scott Ngokene’s waiting hands.
Approaching halftime, Zachariah Chilongoshi found himself in a promising position near the box. However, hesitation crept in, leading him to opt for a pass to Pinoki Vuvu, who regrettably was not in an ideal position to take a shot. This hesitation led to a missed opportunity for the Pensioners.
The second half introduced more excitement as NAPSA Stars scored their first goal of the season in open play during the 64th minute. Musonda Kapembwa, with a powerful header, converted a pass from Fredrick Mwimanzi, making it 1-0 in favor of the Pensioners.
However, in the 76th minute, the home team managed to equalize, albeit in an unfortunate manner, as Daniel Adoko gifted them an own goal.
As the game hung in the balance, the final moments of injury time brought a nerve-wracking climax. The Pensioners had to dig deep to secure a point as a Warriors player unleashed a powerful shot that rebounded off Mukwanya. In a display of skill, Keegan expertly headed the ball back into Mukwanya’s waiting hands, ensuring NAPSA survived the close call.
Coach Perry expressed his thoughts after the match, acknowledging his team’s commendable effort in Kabwe.
“It was not an easy game, and we will take the point despite almost winning the match. A lapse in concentration cost us, but we will learn from this and continue to improve.” The Coach said.
On the other hand, the home team’s Coach Numba Mumamba expressed disappointment with his team’s performance.
“We played better football, but we couldn’t secure the win.” coach Numba stressed.
The match concluded with a scoreline of Warriors 1-1 NAPSA. While it may not have been the desired result for both sides, it was a match filled with suspense, near misses, and moments of resilience.
The Pensioners’ next challenge awaits in a Week 5 match against Zanaco FC in Lusaka.
