NAPSA Stars has beaten Prisons Leopards by four goals to one in a thrilling encounter played at National Heroes Stadium today.
Before this match, the Pensioners last recorded a victory in their week-10 where they hosted Kabwe Warriors at Heroes Stadium.
The game started with high intensity with both teams trying to break the deadlock.
Musonda put the home team into the lead in the 10th minute through a spectacular goal from the penalty spot sending the goalkeeper in the opposite direction after his teammate Augustine Mulenga was brought down in the box by Prisons Leopards defender.
Before Prisons could equalize, Frederick Mwimanzi sweetly sent the ball into the corner the with the back of his head from the nicely taken corner by left back Joseph Lungu to extend the lead 2-0 in the 28th minute of the game.
As the game unfolded, Francis Zulu pulled one back in the 32nd minute which was the only consolation goal for the visitors to make it 2-1.
Prisons Leopards took advantage by putting the ball into the right bottom of the net when NAPSA Stars defenders failed to organize themselves.
As Prison Leopards was trying to get an equalizer, Simon Nkata made it worse by adding another goal to make it 3-1 for the home side.
During the 87th minute of the game, defender Keegan Zulu headed a cross from Augustine Mulenga to make it 4 -1 and seal the game for NAPSA Stars.
The win adds to the consistency that NAPSA Stars has had over Prison Leopards in terms of dominance.
And the win has also taken NAPSA Stars 10th on the log from 14th position.
During a post-match interview, NAPSA Stars Head Coach Perry Mutapa expressed happiness with the win.
“We were geared for this game, it is good we have won it after a very bad path.” Mutapa said.
Mutapa expressed happiness that his team managed to convert most of the chances into goals compared to the previous games.
He however said the opponents played well despite going down 4-1.
Mutapa further added that it was important that his team goes into the mid-season break with such momentum.
“The break will give us time to rectify the mistakes and see where we can repair.” Mutapa said.
Meanwhile Prison Leopards Head Coach Albert Kachinga expressed his disappointed with the defeat.
“Unfortunately it was a very bad day for us.” Kachinga said.
He said that the loss is big blow to the team as they were using the game to keep aliove their dreams of qualifying for the 2022/23 ABSA Cup.
He added that there are internal factors that added to the loss.
