NAPSA Stars Football Club were held to a barren draw at their new home ground last Saturday when the team played Nkwazi FC in a week-two match of the MTN Super League.
Coach Perry Mutapa in his post-match interview, expressed concern with his player’s lack of scoring, but was quick to add that the team will keep pushing in every game.
The Pensioners are yet to score and concede a goal in the league after their week two fixture. The team now has two points from the two games played.
The coach said his side managed to control the temple of the game, but lacked creativity especially in the final third.
“Our opponents knew exactly what they wanted and they got just that. We had a great first half and if we had maintained the composure and creativity throughout the match, we could have won the game,” Coach Perry stressed.
It was a 50/50 affair which saw Pensioners dominate the first half and Nkwazi dominating the second half.
The Perry Mutapa-coached side missed a number of good chances to carry the day and impress their new home fans, with the first notable chance coming in the 21st minute when Jimmy Mukeya was presented with a great scoring opportunity, but lost his balance and put in a weak shot which was easily saved..
A few minutes after that, Daniel Adoko had another chance but his effort went wide.
Nkwazi’s Shadreck Mulungwe was close to getting a late winner for his side when his well-taken set piece was parried off by Rodwell Mukwanya.
This was a second great save by Mukwanya, with his first being in the first half when he denied Kenneth Kasanga’s shot from going in.
Coach Perry exhausted all his five substitutions in this much in a quest for a goal.
Midfielder Felix Banda was introduced in the 60th minute and substituted again in the 85th minute.
The Pensioners are third on the log with two points after week two.
The team’s next match is against Lumwana Radiants FC in Lumwana this Saturday.
